Full Perfusion & Surgical Simulation

Full body perfusion with real world injuries to the chest and abdomen combined with dynamic vital signs represent a possible capstone to your surgical team training session. The surgeon must lead a team of anesthesia providers, surgical nurses, and technicians to treat an injured patient. In these scenarios the "treatment" begins by obtaining an artificial airway and initiating mechanical ventilation, proceeds with central and peripheral vascular access and fluid administration, during which time the surgeon must evaluate the injury, devise, then execute the plan for control of the injury. Dynamic vital signs as well as degree of bleeding are regulated in the background to heighten the sense of urgency and add to the suspension of disbelief.

All sessions are video recorded for post case review with trainees and instructors are provided performance rubrics to assist in debriefing following the case. This method of training supports transfer of skills learned in the laboratory setting to the living patient operating room or emergency setting and has an impact on patient safety.
